Planimeter Polar Integrating Machine Engineering Tool Swiss Vernier Precision Scale

For all of us rather leave integral calculus to machines, here is a very rare, precision Goodsend of an opportunity. Planimeters are mechanical integrating machines. They are used to determine the area under some rather nasty looking curve. This precision instrument was made by G. Coradi in Zürich Switzerland and it is factory fresh - as of cca. 1970. It was sold by Iszard-Warren Co. Inc of Philadelphia and it has no type number. It has three major metal parts and a table of constants affixed to the inside of its case. All of the above is enclosed in a beautiful well made padded case.

This device is a Polar Planimeter. It has two vernier scales, a brass pole weight, adjustments to allow to read in various units and scales, a tracer arm connected the tracer point to the carriage. The user sets up the device, zeroed the recording wheels and then traced the pointer all the way around curve in study (clockwise direction produces a positive result.) The area could then be read directly off the dials. The carriage always moves in a semi-circle regardless of the shape followed by the tracer point. The rotation of the recording wheel is proportional to the area traced. This is a most difficult to find collectable item. First come first serve, only one available!
